Two weeks ago, we boarded a plane in Charleston headed for Austin, Texas for the iHeart Radio Country Festival and a fun weekend escape.
YALL. Austin has some fantastic food. Friday for lunch we ate at Iron Cactus and oh my goodness, we are still talking about the food. I got the lobster tacos, one of the best tacos I’ve ever eaten. I HIGHLY recommend eating here as your Tex-Mex option. Austin has cute little food trucks all over the city and where we chose to eat Saturday. There was a food truck court so everyone can get what they are in the mood for, which is great! Saturday for dinner before the concert, we got BBQ. We both got the sandwich, which had melt in your mouth meat on it. So good. It was fun to try new foods and to branch out of what we normally would eat.
I LOVE history. So when we had the opportunity to go to the LBJ Presidential Library, I was there! We got the student discount (I keep my student id in my wallet for these kinds of discounts) and only had to pay $3. I still would have paid the $8 to get in because there was so much to see. There was an exhibit of the 60 most influential people of the 1960’s, Ab Lincoln’s (fave!) hat he actually wore, Presidential and First Lady portraits and so much more. It kept me entertained the entire time and I definitely recommend it if you find yourself in Austin. It is on UT’s campus which was fun to walk through.
Again with the history, I love it! Columbia’s capital is so fun and beautiful. Texas’ is too. It was so fun to spend some time in this beautiful building learning a little bit of Texas history. Oh and doesn’t everyone take selfies in state capitols?
The main reason for Austin was the iHeart Country Music Festival and it did not disappoint. All the big country names were there and of course my main man Luke! Country music stars really know how to entertain and that is what they did Saturday night.
A friend of mine who had been to Austin before told us to go to Easy Tiger on 6th Street. It was this cute little beer garden with ping pong. We grabbed a drink and snack after the concert and then played ping pong, which was such a refreshing thing. Who goes out on a Saturday night and ends up playing ping pong in a bar. I highly recommend it.
On our flight there, we made a plan for future travel through next summer, so we are excited to announce a travel section of our blog with reviews of places we go in new cities, travel advice, fashion while traveling advice and much more. Be on the lookout for Annie’s post when she returns from her England adventure.
